Hey everyone, I was wondering if there was a reason Toyota/Lexus changed the gear selector from a normal up straight down to a zig zag thing. Below are pictures of what I am referring to. I always thought it was an aesthetic way of presenting the car.

one is an electronic shifter the other is not
Could they not have maintained the original design with the electronic shifter?
No. It wouldn't work. The manual selection mechanism works completely differently from a cable shifted transmission.
