Idle is unstable when stopped on traffic lights: 1000 to 500 RPM

Honda Insight EX 2010 CVT 91000 km (or 57000 Miles)

Idle is unstable when stopped on traffic lights ( transmission on D and foot on the brake pedal). RPM is around 1000-1100 and suddenly lowers to 400-600 for 5-10 seconds and then goes back to normal at 1000-1100. When I a set the transmission from D to Neutral, RPM goes back immediatly to normal.

The problem does not happen when the car is on Park or Neutral. Setting A/C, ventilation or radio off has no impact on the problem. The problem only occurs when the car is stopped. Never occurs when the car is moving.

I have changed air filter and cleaned air sensor.

Car maintenance for Engine oil and transmission oil have been done according  Honda recommandations.

I need advice before going to a mecanic.

Questions

1 What can I try more by myself  ?

2. What are the most commons explanations  for that issue? Electric? Transmission? Spark plug?

3. Can a regular mecanic take care of it ? Or a Honda dealership (but more expensive)?

Besides, 1000 to 1100rpm in drive at idle is too high! Should be more like 700.

I would get it scanned for codes and start there.  It's going to be either an electrical or a fuel problem.

Cleaned the intake?
