Hello Scotty my we got a Toyota RAV4 2011 sport v4 with about 61 thousand miles. When ever it rain very heavy the car lights show up on dash and drains the battery it seems. So the car won’t even crank. It would be completely dead. My mechanic says he cannot find the problem to take it to the Toyota. When we got the car we noticed sand in the floor mats and superficial rust on the lever to open gas tank. Got the car with 27 thousand miles from New York Toyota dealer. Thanks.

You’re hinting at flood damage, in which case all bets are off.
Check the obvious connections and grounds for corrosion. But you may end up taking it to a specialty auto electric shop.
