recently purchased 2003 gmc sierra 141k evap code p0449

replaced vent valve control solenoid and purge valve solenoid as precautionary measures as they went bad on my dads 2005 sierra but cant get rid of the code

i notice that the cats seem to be installed backwards (will take these to a muffler shop to flip them around) the welds have a leak. I want to know if these can cause an issue. thanks

You need to do some testing  (with a higher-level scan tool) and voltmeter to check if the command to the purge solenoid is making it to it to determine if it's a problem with the wiring or something more in-depth. And the cat's won't have any effect on the evap system.

I tried the actuating the vent valve with a modis scan tool but was not getting anything in response to the vent valve itself. I checked for power at the connecter and did not get a signal Aswell as testing for ground. I read that the pcm controls both for this part so that is why I am so confused.

Right. So, if you're not getting anything at the connector then you have to back-track from there. Now you have to find the pin-out at the PCM and check if signal is coming out of the PCM. Either, you have a break in the wiring from the PCM to the connector in the back of the car, or you're not getting output from the PCM and a faulty PCM.

Exhaust system has nothing to do with EVAP system
