I have a 2002 pontiac montana and I am pretty sure I need a new ignition switch but I can't afford one right now. is there any way to bypass the switch or hot wire it. What color wires do I connect together for ignition on. then what color wires do I touch together to turn over the motor.
Don't go ripping into those ignition wires.
You'll make a mess and create a problem where you probably don't have one.
Your 2002 montana uses the GM PassKey 3 anti-theft immobilizer.
Your issue is probably with the "exciter" ring around the ignition switch.
Plenty of youtubes on PassKey 3 to tell you how to bypass it. (there's plenty of videos because it fails a lot)
Just so you know, if you don't know what you are doing and have never hotwired a car before, it is very easy to electrocute yourself.
might fry another component too?

Indeed! You can fry other components for sure if you aren't careful.
That kind of hotwiring is something you do on a 1964 Catalina, not a 2002 Montana. It sounds to me like @jack62 is onto something, you should pursue that before tearing into things and making matters worse.
