How reliable are the 2002 Honda Civics. I have found an ex trim with 103,000 miles for $2000. I will take it to a mechanic to get it inspected. if the engine and transmission are in good shape, can I expect to get it to 250-300k miles? is its reliability similar to the Toyota Corolla?

The transmission on 2001 and 2002 is problematic. If you really like the car, you should have a pro check the transmission to make sure it is fine.

if a mechanic says the transmission is good, should It last a while.

or should I just avoid those model years to be safe?

You may end up putting two more transmission on that car to get to the mileage you want. I would say look for another car.

any recommendations for something I can find for around $
2000?

With this market it is hard to find a good cheap car. If you can wait, it is better to hold on buying for now. If not, look for older Corollas or Crown Vic.

How long can a crown vic/grandmarquis/towncar last? I found one for a decent price but the lady said she had to replace the spindle. Should that deter me from buying it?

They can last couple hundred thousand miles if well taken care. Have a mechanic check it out, it can be a good one.

is the spindle something to be concerned about? it was replaced due to an accident. I will have any car inspected by a mechanic before I buy it.$ 2000 for a 2000 grand marquis with 118,000 miles.

I would not worry about it that much if it is fixed but have your mechanic check the car.
