Hi, I have 2015 Toyota camry, 4 Cylinder. They manual specified to use (ilsac gf-5) oil grade. I normally change the oil every 5000 miles with no oil consumption.
This oil change, I found Valvoline have a new oil upgrade (ilsac gf-6 instead of gf-5) 10 times extended protection, which is more expensive
This time, after 2500 mile from the new oil change, I recognized oil level is less, which is the first time this is happening.
My question does ilsac gf-6 oil grade have a consumption more that gf-5?
(note: I did not change oil brand, valvoline, only upgraded to the extension protection gf-6).
gf6 is a little thinner when cold to provide quicker lubrication and more protection. Since the engine isn't warmed up yet, that means a little bit of oil may be consumed. I think this is a OK tradeoff. I'd rather use a little bit more oil then cause more wear to the engine.
Thank you sir! I do not mind adding more oil I just was worry if my engine developed a problem.
