I’m interested in a 2009 Dodge Journey SXT with 130k for $2500 from a private party. Is it worth it?

$2500 for a 2009 van is not that bad, but ask a mechanic to check it before buying.

@yaser Thanks. I did notice that it’s listed as an SUV but does have a mini van appearance. & yes I’m having the local dodge dealership check it out for $80-$100 bc there is a check engine light on dash. They said they will be able to tell me the issue before purchase.

If I were you, I would find a trustable mechanic to check it for me. I have not had good experiences with chain repair shops and dealers.

@yaser
Yeah I know what you mean. I would but the car is about 2hrs away. I’m purchasing from a private party & Im hoping the dodge dealership can give me honest feedback. Thanks

Weak points: Starter (recall), Alternator, resonator, and water pump.

Have it general check-up with your local mechanic before you buy, it's a fair good deal, I have 2010 se 2.4L  (still good running) 151K no big issues.

@tadz
Awesome Thanks.

I wouldn't touch it.  We bought a 2010 Journey SXT new and it was terrible for the 7 years we owned it.  Not too many make it much over 130,000 miles IMO

@phaezamp
I hear you. If mechanic says it checks out after checking all the trouble spots suggested on here. She may do it. $2500 is a deal & her current car is dead. I’m thinking she can put it up for sale for pretty much what she pays for it until she finds what she really wants. Hopefully we can find her something else but we shall see. Thanks
