Inaccurate fuel level reading

My mother has a 2005 Ford Explorer and the only code it's throwing is P0463 has to do with inaccurate fuel reading. The fuel gauge will sometimes fluctuate, stick low, or stick high.

What would be the best approach to this because, while it doesn't effect anything else as far as driving, the gauge being inaccurate is pretty inconvenient.

You probably need a new sending unit.  It's in the tank with the fuel pump.

If you don’t want to spend the money to fix it, I recommend using the trip odometer to keep track of mileage, so you have a good idea of when to fill up.
