How to find a good independent Mech?

I have watched a lot of Scotty's videos and I do need to find an independent mechanic who is honest. (I live on the Northside of Chicago) Maybe a good way to do this is to actually go to a few when your car has no trouble and TRY to talk to one, see if they are of good character, like Scotty is. Maybe ask them some questions and judge their honesty ?? My experience has been they are always rushed, with no time... and I have been ripped off too many times. Any suggestions? 🙂 Thanks.

Also, in reference to my last question and to clarify.... I grew up here, but lived in Tn/Ky for 20+ years... I only been back in Chicago for about 6 years... things have changed and for the most part, I have not had a vehicle for the years I been back.

Ask friends, coworkers etc. where they go.

Ya if they did not all move to the Burbs or live on the other side of town. I have 2 in mind... I will figure it out. SERIOUS trust issues. I will be doing some maintenance work on my Honda. It runs very well. Thank you Mountainmanjoe. Thanks everyone.
