I have a 2002 Chevy Silverado.. with Approx. 300,000 miles. i cant tell because the Mileage light doesn't come on anymore. Now when i stop at Redlight or just traveling down the rode. The Gas gauge will flop over to zero. Ill rock the truck back and forth and it will creap back up.

One of two things; either the sending unit in the gas tank is taking a dump or one of the solder joints on the circuit board in back of the gauge panel has cracked. This was pretty common on these trucks.

My 1967 Rambler does this on occasion due to a loose connection to the sending unit in the gas tank.
