Interior Door Trim Crack Caused by Uncaring Mechanic

Topic starter

I took my beloved beetle (2006) to a mechanic to replace the window module.   The mechanic cracked my door trim … what should i put on it to ‘heal’ it, or at least cover it up? The inner door trim paint matches the exterior paint color.  Trying to send pic unable to attach it.

If the mechanic won't own up to it, your best bet will probably be to try to source a replacement door panel of the same color from a junkyard.

The mechanic cracked my door trim

then he needs to replace it

He probably won't. "It was like that when I worked on it," is the classic thing shady mechanics hide behind, even when the customer is right. If he's ethical, he'll replace it for free. Unless you have some kind of video showing him doing it, it's hearsay,  especially when a car is almost 18 years old.

here’s the pic

that's pretty bad. Show it to the mechanic, or his manager.

If you can’t find a trim at the junkyard like @chucktobias recommends, maybe vinyl it?

can i just …very carefully put bondo in the crack and then use my touchup paint on it?

I’m not too experienced with bondo, but that is one route! Perhaps others here know about using bondo on that.
