Is a 2000 Chevy Silverado a good buy?

Hey Scotty,

My friends father's 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 4.3 V8 engine just went out. He had the tranny rebuilt about a year ago. He's 70 years old, has had the truck since it was a year old and kept it in good shape. He may not want the truck anymore. Do you think if I were to try to buy the truck and get the motor rebuilt would it be a good decision?

Yes the old Silverados are really well made. I'd put another engine in it. I don't know if I'd rebuild that one. I kind of look around for when it was already rebuilt cuz there's tons of those around and a lot of guys say they just have something they're going to sell cuz aren't that. Many guys still driving old ones and an engine is only worth what everybody will pay for it. So you can often get a good deal on it already. Rebuilt

The 4.3 is a V6 engine.

But, many people swap it for a V8. You have to switch to electric fans to fit it in, though.

It depends on the condition of the rest of the truck, the price you pay for it, and how you get the engine in.

Rebuilding won't be worth it, but buying a re-manufactured or used one might be.

Scotty gives a great response. Other than that the Silverados are good on the slippery roads because of the road clearance. But if your talking overall good, then trade for f150
