I want to buy a used 2004 Toyota 4Runner sr5 with 211k miles on it. Found it on Carfax for $4,990. The place where the car is held is Coda Motors LLC in Burr Ridge IL
The car appears to look in nice condition. Engine bay looks clean. The engine is the 4.0L V6 Automatic. The car is reported to have minor damage. Could be scratches or nicks.
What should I be looking out for? Should I bring a mechanic to inspect it?
of course have a mechanic check it out the main thing is to check the frame some of those the frames are rotted if the frames are rotted don't touch it
DEFINITELY have a mechanic check it out. They can be solid vehicles but you have to make sure there is no rust or hidden gremlins.
Make sure that vehicle is not abused by previous owner(s).
For example I picked up mine with 7km on odometer, 3 hours later I played it in mud and water wading with stock parts and tires.
Every weekend I drive it on dirt road until shock absorbers overheated and faded.
I am not the only one.
