G.T. is right. We won't know if they are unreliable or not for several years. But, there are things we do know will apply. Parts will be hard to find and expensive. There will be few mechanics who are familiar with your car, and you will either have to pay top dollar for repairs, or have the repairs done by mechanics who aren't familiar with that car.

That said, it's your money, your priorities. I have a good friend who has nothing but pre-1984 vehicles, and is happy as can be tinkering with his old Porsche, BMW and Triumphs every weekend. I have Japanese cars and bikes and spend my weekends (and money) going places.

All the modern Volvos are European high tech vehicles owned by Chinese company Geely.  Volvos used to make good, long lasting vehicles back in the day, but if you plan to buy and hold on to the vehicle beyond the warranty period it is a gamble.  The engine choices range from 2.0L Turbo 4 cylinder to a 2.0L Turbo and Supercharged 4 cylinder to a plug-in hybrid (with turbo and supercharged 4 cylinder with an electric motor) all very complex - and that is not even accounting for all the electronics making up the car.  My advice:  if you like it, lease one.
