Gotta 06 Corolla w/ 83,000 miles. I can do stuff on cars, but do I need special tools to change the fuel filter.  I can't find any videos that really show just the filter being replaced.  I can't figure out what the filter actually looks like.  Anyway, thanks for all the info.

Looking at the rockauto.com parts database it appears that car does not have a conventional fuel filter, it has a strainer inside the fuel tank that most likely is attached to the fuel pump.

Yeah, looks like a weird design. Some kind of strainer. Maybe just check the fuel pressure and if it's O.K. I won't even bother. The car has other issues that need money!

Thanks for the rockauto.com info. Just looked at the part and it looks like it should be simple to attach a new strainer. The problem is getting it out and apart. Think I'll fix some other things first then pressure test the pump.

Fortunately, Toyota puts a removable panel below the rear seat that allows you to pull the pump/filter assembly without too much drama or tools. Here's a video for a Matrix, which should give you an idea - do a Youtube search for your year/model.
