2009 Corolla As a First Car

I came across a used 2009 Toyota Corolla for 9k with 94,777 miles (the version with the 1.8L engine and automatic transmission) from a dealership. I've known that these engines are known to burn oil, but not as bad as their 2.4L counterparts. I checked the service history and the oil was changed regularly. Should I go for it? I will be test driving it tomorrow as of the writing of this. Thanks!

Price? Dealership claims about the car are highly suspect. Are their signs of oil burning such as oily soot in the tailpipe or oil fouling on the spark plugs? A compression test would be a good idea. Be sure to have the car checked by a good independent mechanic - do not trust anything the dealer tells you.

The price is $8,777. I will do the tailpipe test with my fingers and check around the spark plugs. The dealer itself is local to ther area, and I have a reputable mechanic that I can take it to for a compression test. Thanks!

Certainly not from a dealer and absolutely not at that price for a nearly 14 year old car.

I don't think the 1.8L engines were vulnerable to burn oil. I think it's the 2.4L engine that burns oil. A small little advice is to never buy used cars from the dealership.

Thanks! That's what I've been reading about on this engine. The dealer itself is local and reputable but I will still check everything thoroughly myself.

I mean it's your call. People don't buy used cars from dealerships because they're just too expensive and you can get a similar vehicle for a cheap price.
