Is my new 2023 Kia Sportage LX a good purchase and should I be worried about the GDI engine?

I bought this as my first new car ever. Could you spare any advice on what I should do for preventative maintenance to get the most years on it, is it a good vehicle compared to older Kia models and is the GDI something I can easily maintain to make sure valves don’t get gunked up?

Yes

You'll have to pay to have it cleaned periodically. Call some mechanics for a quote but I don't think it's cheap.

Big NO.

Get rid of it and buy something better. It's literally brand new and in this market you can even get more than you payed for it. You can get a new Rav4 or CR-V for that price.

Just keep up the required maintenance for the warranty to remain in effect.

From the standpoint of someone who owns a 2023 Kia Stonic LX and drives a 2021 Kia Niro LX -

No the US-spec 2023 Sportage (LWB, 2.5 GDI, A8MF1) does not make any sense.

It only make sense to buy a Kia when it is either significantly better, cheaper, or simpler than its Japanese competition.

Get familiar with your warranty terms to not lose coverage, Replace the engine oil every 5k-7.5k miles, Replace the transmission oil every 30k-37.5k miles, Perform any additional maintenance as recommended by the owners' manual.

I think it's uglier than the previous generation and it will probably be as bad as it has been ever since the nameplate came to North America.
