2017 Subaru Outback 4 cylinder 47,000 miles
Noticed spots on my driveway, found fluid drops coming from where transmission mates with engine, and a wet stain on bottom back side corner only of transfer case.
Figured it should be under warranty so I had a mechanic I trust do a quick visual inspection only before contacting the dealer. He said front leak was transmission fluid, rear leak was seeping transfer case.
Took it to the dealer, they said they couldn’t find where the leak was coming from so they scrubbed off fluid and applied a Castle leak detection powder spray, and I should drive for 2 weeks and come back.
My instincts told me he was full of it, so I asked him if they used any stop leak products rather than replace seals. He said no…they are not “scumbag” dealers, and replied “no” when I specifically asked if they did anything that could stop the leak.
Miraculously when I got home from the dealer (1/2 hr drive) it was dry as a bone. It had been wet with at least a drop of fluid ready to drip when I returned home from a 12 minute drive every day since I noticed a week ago.
I guess my question isn’t IF I’m being worked over…but how, and how to handle it.- Thanks
how to handle it
wait the two weeks
Thanks, I will give them the benefit of the doubt and wait. I called and apologized for being accusatory.
They were right, I see it now. Front differential/axle seal. They aren’t going to cover it under warranty.
