Scotty
My Sonata runs well although it is burning 1 qt of oil every 1000 miles.
I took it to a Hyundai dealer last summer for an oil consumption test and they said this rate of oil burning is within specifications and they would not replace my engine. With the high price of new and used cars, I have decided to keep the car.
I am wondering just how worn my engine and transmission is and whether I should invest additional money in this car.
If I drove thru your area, would you be interested in running applicable diagnostics to give me a better idea of the engine and transmission health? This additional information would enable me to make an informed decision on whether sell or keep the car.
My schedule is flexible.
Please let me know

Well I believe the specification is up to 1L per 1000KM, so above 1.7 quarts per 1,000 miles is when they replace them.
(From my understanding of things, I could be wrong)

Just don't invent anything except basic maintenance (engine oil, transmission oil, ...) and other small repairs that would be required to keep this car running.
165k miles is a lot for a Hyundai, usually first issues arise at 100k and things get worn out after 150k.
Welcome to the club of Hyundai engine oil burners - this is all too common with their vehicles the past decade. And with that high mileage (for a Hyundai), don’t put anymore money into that vehicle - I would get rid of it while you can.

Rhode Island or Tennessee? Either way, please see under FAQ for how to contact him, but I would honestly get rid of that vehicle.
