is there an inbetweener transmission between the RH and RE's?

wont say what rebuilder but I have had two returns I am going through right now over a 46RH from a 1994 dodge ram where the first one had the wrong bellhousing on the front of it and they had me return it, the second one does not have the right connections and sensors now, so my question is.... (since the choice to send the wrong thing was based on teh front half of the bellhousing by the person I talked and shared images of old original vs the new bought unit) were there instances as the shift from the 90s RH in 1996 to the RE version of transmission on those ram 1500s, would they possibly have used newer front half of the housing to build their remaining needed RH transmissions in this case? (they seem to bolt together just fine with the back half and the front half where one has a speed sensor that you can pull out from the outside while the other teh speed sensor is in a solid case and the wiring must be routed out through the case and not just straight out that giant hole on the side of the case.

It should have a case tag you can identify it with.

Service manual says it could be a 47RH/RE  (only for V10 and diesel)

According to wikipedia:

RH : hydraulic controlled governor pressure (early)

RE : electronic controlled governor pressure (late. Common after 1996). Features a large 8-pin round connector (often horizontal or angled) on the driver's side case for electronic shifting and governor control

@imperator thank you that is the first instance someone explained what the RH and RE meant, build sheet says it should be RH but I wondered if there could be confusion caused by shifting front half of the core as showing them a photo of mine vs what they sent me, (the dust cover to keep rocks and such from bouncing up into the front end of the transmission would not fit on the one they sent plus there seems to be a missing bolt hole needed for a part to be mounted on the transmission front end and engaging the gear around the torque converter, but I am wondering if maybe they sent the right thing and the factory ran out of those while spitting them out and shifted to the new designes front end because that is what I have vs what they sent now (front end matches perfectly but the backend has that larger 8 pin connector and no opening to install the back end sensor while mine only has a 3 pin oval pin connection and that sensor opening (dont have the cables with me so I cant look to see if it amounts to another 5 pins or not but as long as its 5 or less I could see it being connected that way maybe?)

sorry it's really hard to read an entire paragraph that runs on with any punctuation. Anyway bottom line is sounds like you have a hydraulic transmission which means you can't install an electronic one. Again, the case stamping will tell you what they sent you.

@imperator Sorry bout that.

thank you, that is the first instance someone explained what the RH and RE meant.
Build sheet says it should be a 46RH

I wondered if there could be confusion caused by the 2 halves of the transmission being mated right? mine is a 94, so only one more year was made with them supposedly shifting to the RE, SO I am wondering if there are instances where the manufacturer would shift to using a newer part like the front half of the core (bell housing) while continue using the back half for the RH that would confuse a transmission rebuilder due to it not being a common knowledge?

basically what I am wondering is if the bell housing of an RE could be used as a substitute for the original RH bell housing by the manufacturer that would cause massive confusion for a transmission rebuilding company. (and even bigger question, would it really be that big of a deal to get the original build or would the interior of the rebuilt new unit having the original RH front end of the bell housing,

I have two if not 3 people at this rebuilding company that has numerous locations around the USA completely confused with the photos of the original transmission out of my truck as they see the front and say it has to be an RE but the backend they look at and say that it has to be an RH as the build sheet for my truck's VIN says it is.....

Every character in the model number means something. The information is available on the web.

(Ford & GM has a similar conventions)

4 : speeds

6: torque rating

R: Rear-wheel-drive application

E/H: Control system

the bell housing of an RE could be used as a substitute for the original RH bell housing

The bell-housing is not separate like you see on some auto trans. It's part of the transmission.

shift to using a newer part like the front half of the core

The front halves are different.  one has a hydraulic valve body , and the other has solenoids. One has a mechanical governor, the other is electric.

they see the front and say it has to be an RE

again, case numbers.

@imperator so does this mean externally they can have two differnt types of exterior, that are internally designed for E or H yet look the same? cause I have two here one is an RH and the other is an RE that the front half (there are two pieces you can see bolt together in the middle for working on rebuilding them)

in these two transmissions externally the case looks identical other than one is used and dirty but the bolted on section a tthe back is different (there is no external access to the back speed sensor, while the other has a hole the sensor is inserted into

I am guessing the casting system used the same exterior section but internally have a different casting?

(this is a huge issue with it causing confusion apparently with the rebuilder company I am trying to get a replacement from. thus why I have been silent up till recently as I want to see if I can clear this up and maybe if solid answers can be had, it can allow them to update their databases for future customers who need this service to keep their old reliable on the road longer) 🙂

@imperator on the case numbers I gave them everything from vin to the number stamped on my transmission right at the beginning and still ended up with the issues of order, send it back, get the wrong thing again, send it back.
And this is where I am at currently with lots of photos and such being swapped back and forth, (getting the impression its due to the size of the company and having too many employees so they have a few that dont know what they are doing really with older units (1994) causing confusion among the rest of the company on what the machine they are making the part for actually is.)

I'm not a transmission expert, and I've used up my knowledge of these transmissions and what I could find online, and I don't have any of your transmissions in front of me. You still haven't posted your transmission case number, so I suggest putting that in a web search. Best of luck.

@imperator oh sorry this is the case number PK52118324 1893 1198

@imperator ok I guess because I ran out of time and it did not already let me know I was out of time, here is a link to a page with a couple photos of things,
the end of the second new replacement is not here cause it looks like mine, unlike the first rebuilt unit with the blue painted torque converter that was not identical which I included the photo, also the side with that speed sensor hole was matching to mine unlike the second replacement
