Is this a good deal?

2011 Rav4 v6 limited $6499 179k miles excellent condition. 2 owners no accident great service history. The dealer selling it is a 5 star dealer by 52 people. Also, this car was driven 26k miles by it's second owner, so it is most likely highway miles. Do you think it is still a good deal with all that mileage?

Look at the KBB trade in value, NOT the private value.

https://www.kbb.com/whats-my-car-worth/?ico=a

Odds are the real world value of that thing is arond $4500 and I'd start at around there.

that sounds more like it.

To give some idea, my friend's family tried to trade in a 2006 RAV4 4 cylinder (65k miles) and got offered 3500 bucks, which was a lot more than I expected so that is no more than 4500 and real world I'd only consider it if a mechanic says its in good shape and you see signs of highway miles (look on youtube)

@kerem ; it's funny how your friends know stuff about cars, mine don't even know what cars they own.

They don't, I tell them.
They were looking at a CR-V and tried to see the trade in value, I basically persuaded them to go CR-V but later they decided not to because 60k miles is nothing for a rav4.
Since you are looking at prices, they bought it 2 years ago for $10,000, though the market was around $8000
So 170k miles is a bit much I'd stay under 130 if I were you.

If I were to get one with lower miles it is always either badly maintained or is very overpriced. I will also drive only like 6000 miles a year since i'm a teen, so I don't need one with really low mileage.

Ok, then don't pay much. Do the KBB trade in thing.

@kerem the KBB value trade in was actually $6000, I posted a link to the car so you can verify it.

carmax offer is $5400

do you know how to check if a car is highway or city miles just from the pictures i provided the link to. It was driven 27k miles a year for 4 years by the 2nd owner. Does that indicate highway mileage?

there should be videos on youtube
does this help

I'd shoot for $5000 max. Honestly the miles are a lot.

For your area the price is good though... Outragerous prices there as well checked on criagslist even the base 4s cost more with 130 140k miles so I'd consider buying something like this as long its highway miles.
As these V6 engines are no slouch

Ik You say go for it, while joe says walk away. I don't like how these cars go for so much money. If they can't even last 200,000 miles, what is the resale value for anyway?

Well they should be able to last 200k miles but the prices are crazy. Check out the 2006-2008 models before the refresh maybe those are less expensive. You may want to check out a Camry V6, SE trim if you want sporty, XLE for luxurious, LE for in between.

no, I never said walk away.

Oh right. You said go for it, but beware of the problems.

lol. whatever

That's not a terrible price for one of those, but try to negotiate it down another $1000 or so because of the mileage. Even though it's from a high rated dealer, still have a trusted independent mechanic inspect the car before you decide to buy. A Rav4 with a V6 is very reliable and those 5 speed automatics are pretty bulletproof.

Thanks for responding. I have been wanting this car as my first car for years. I will definetly look into it, but I don't know if I should purchase it right away cause i'm scared of the high mileage. It might leave me stranded.

research other Rav4's on craigslist and stuff until you get a better sense of market value. This is your dream car right? You owe it to yourself to do the research so you can go to the dealer lot with confidence.

I did look up a lot of different ads for many months. What kind of research do you mean?

alright so you must have some idea what that Rav4 is worth. How much are you willing to pay?

Did you try negotiating with any of the people in the ads?

If you look after a car properly, it shouldn't leave you stranded. If you look over it really well, then you shouldn't get too many surprises. Rather, the concern with high mileage cars would is the cost of upkeep.

I would offer $5000 like everybody else just because of the mileage. Check with the mechanic and check the titles. Good job finding your fast dream SUV as a first time teen.

It has high mileage, even though my parents think high mileage is bad I will try to persuade them to give it a look. My parents think 100,000 miles is a lot for car. When and if I get the Rav4, I will try to upload some photos and possibly an acceleration video.

My parents have the 2007 Honda Odyssey with 140,000 miles. The transmissions keeps going out. The A.C. and the engine is still running with no problems. I think the reason the AC doesn't go out because he put it at 78 degrees and not a lot of fan speed.

If you are lucky, Scotty can look at your comment and post a video featuring your comment. You can show it to your parents.

high mileage is bad. You should buy the lowest mileage vehicle that you can afford.

IKR My dad had a honda civic 2004 and drove it like a maniac. That was a tough little coupe. It had 4 accidents and 90k miles on it when the tranny died in 2017. Honda is known for somewhat weak transmissions. Toyota makes the absolute best transmissions.

@mountainmanjoe even if it's in good condition?

high mileage is a condition. It means more wear and tear.

Or do you mean it looks pretty? Which is fine if you like the way it looks broken down on the side of the highway.

@mountainmanjoe what mileage should i shoot for regarding 2011 v6 rav? 140? 150?

like I said. The lowest you can afford.

"My parents think 100,000 miles is a lot for car"
Thats very old school car reliability.
I think 130k miles max

my moms first car was a $6000 yugo and my dad's first car was a $500 cadillac.

idiots

the numnums streetracing in the video

ikr; there was literary police lights in the background

Not only the F-150 got smoked by the Rav4, the F150 got smoked by reliability.

My dad also have a 2012 Nissan Altima with almost 100,000 miles. For some reason, the Jatco transmission is strangely more reliable than the Odyssey tranmissions.

Snatch it up those are great vehicles. Make sure you have a mechanic check it out before you buy it and also try to offer 6,000 and see if they will take it. Best of luck!!

Honestly, they are really good cars but if you want something a little cheaper with lower miles go with a Toyota Corolla or Camry.

I would look at it this way. If the car looks mint and has a complete documented service history of excellent maintainence, then its probably worth it. If weak on documentation but decent, offer less.
