Should I buy this Rav4

Someone's selling a 2001 Toyota RAV4 for $1300. It's got 165k miles on it. The check engine light is on with the code P750. And apparently there's rough shifting at times, and sometimes there isn't. Does this mean that the transmission is going out?

I would not buy a vehicle with trouble codes. It is quite possible the transmission is failing especially if it has not been properly serviced over the last 22 years.

It’s hard to tell. The transmission could be failing. Or it could be as simple as changing the transmission oil out for fresh transmission oil. But it’s really hard to know. I sure as heck wouldn’t know how to decipher the difference.

If I already owned the car, I would try changing the transmission oil out. But if I were in the market to buy one, u would be hesitant.

Perhaps ask for a fresh check-up and all clear by mechanic before purchasing ,also watch out for rust on a rav.
