I have a 2011 Toyota Corolla that has play in the steering wheel. This causes my car to shift side to side a little on the high way. I got it checked out by some guys at a place called Les Schwab and they said the rack and pinion looked fine (I thought that would be the issue.) The tire rods were looked at and they're okay too. I might have another place check out the rack and pinion again just to get another opinion on it. What do you guys think the issue is? I greatly appreciate the help.
Thanks for the advice everyone! Turns out the left tire rod had play in it, so got both the front ones replaced. The left Pittman arm was jacked up too, so that got fixed. Also found out the struts have to be replaced eventually. I greatly appreciate y'alls help!
For starters, find a proper mechanic. Not a chain store.
To check for play, the car need to be jacked up and the various parts checked by hand and maybe even testing them under a simulated load.
It could be the rack, it could also be some suspension parts which are worn.
I would put my money on loose and worn tie rod ends.
Have you checked the Pittman arm?
Also, how old are the tires? It's worth having a look at them & the balance if everything else is checking out fine.
