Hi Scotty,

I have a 2021 Isuzu DMax Cab4 pickup truck fitted with the Isuzu 1.9 RZ4E Engine with a 6 speed MVL-6Y manual transmission.

Is this a reliable combination?

(There are early reports of engine sensor problems in Australia with a stop sale notice being introduced in February 2022).

Thanking you in advance.

Jay.

As for my knowledge of this vehicle and the research I’ve done. This seems as a decent engine and the manual transmission will definitely last longer than the automatic counterpart, of course with any vehicle their will be it’s common selection of problems. No vehicle is perfect. The only problem I see, is the low horsepower rating and small displacement of the engine. I surely hope towing is not in your ideal schedule, it’s just a small amount of power if you plan for towing, but as an everyday vehicle it should be swell. Though also keep in mind diesel prices are rising excessively right now due to global situations. The 1.9L 150hp turbo diesel seems appealing though it seems a bit underpowered for an American who is obsessed with V8’s but that is just my personal preference since I use my vehicle for a lawn company. Diesels can be very reliable as long as you are peculiar for maintenance. Though the turbo of course will wear out the engine more overtime, due to more pressure being forced inside the engine. Also buying a new truck may not always be the best choice due to the fact I saw there was just a recent change of engines. The previous models used a 2.4L engine. It’s not always smart to jump into a new design, because the problems are never revealed in an new engine design until time is present. So I would’ve personally have waited, but time will only tell how this engine will hold up, though the manual transmission was a decent option, since it will outlast the automatic transmission they put inside their vehicles. Though I wish you good luck. And let us know how your experience goes.

I don’t know too much in this specific model. With that said, transmission looks to be good because it is an Aisin and a manual.

And regarding the engine, I trust an Isuzu engine more than I trust a GM engine. Older D Max used to use GM engines and platforms. But I don’t know much about the specific of this Isuzu engine.
