Maybe a stupid question, How do you torque the Jam Nut when replacing an outer tie rod?
elbow grease until its tight?

I always just tightened them with a large wrench. But if you wanted to adhere to the exact torque specs you could buy a crowfoot adapter for your torque wrench.
There's a right way and a wrong way of positioning the adapter on the wrench so you get an accurate reading.
It has to be positioned at a 90 degree angle to the wrench so it doesn't change the distance between the nut and the center of the handle.
