Hello gang, I would like to know your thoughts on the Jeep Gladiator 3.0 Diesel engine itself. It's a 2021 third generation eco-diesel engine... but I'm interested in hearing opinions about the engine itself.

If you are in the US, I would stay away from Jeep diesels. I have had a Liberty CRD since 2005, and it is an OK vehicle if you can fix everything yourself. If you need a mechanic, forget about it. Very few people know how to work on them.

When’s the last time you heard someone in the US say, “man that Italian made diesel is the greatest motor ever made.”

yeah no one. They’re junk stick to the pentastar it’s a much better motor and it’s been around longer.

Thanks USAfdozerpilot... 3.6 is pretty easy to work on as well...kinda tight in the jeep but 3rd gen is legit

@rogerniner it’s a pretty straight forward motor. I’ve seen a couple 3.6s with 300k mi + still going strong. The US government has made the United States anti diesel and its going to get worse so unless you absolutely needed one I’d pas on a diesel.

That’s one of the worst Diesel engines made in modern vehicles.  It is designed and built by an Italian company VM Motori owned previously by FCA (and now Stellantis), and I don’t trust any updates they made to the engine over the years to make it better.

See Scotty’s assessment of it at 3:10 below (from years back):

thanks daywalker, anyone that knows Scotty... knows that he HATES FCA/stellantis etc etc... but he does have a point

I have 5 things to say about that engine:

1. terrible

2. Terrible

3. TERRIBLE

4. TERRIBLE TERRIBLE

5. TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE

The Ecodiesel name is a funny one IMO because there is nothing eco about it, except when it breaks because it won't work and it won't have to pollute.

For similar money, I would rather have Frontier or Tacoma.

Thanks Nessuk, nice looking truck imo... I'm worried about the engine itself... I am not sure how durable in is in the longrun. They put a 3rd gen ecodiesel engine in 2021, so one would think they got it right? who knows thanks again
