Jeep or Kia?

Topic starter

Hey Scotty, my sister is set on buying either a 2021 Jeep Wrangler Sahara with the V6 and manual transmission or a 2021 Kia Telluride which I think is a terrible idea. I told her to look at buying either a Toyota or a Honda. If she buys a Jeep, is there any good option to buy? She doesn’t want anything else. Look forward to your answer! Big fan!! Thanks for all you do!

Jeep and Kia are her only two choices?  The two out of three worst vehicles on the planet?

Talk about being between a rock and a hard place.  Tell her to lease the Jeep over the Kia and return before warranty expires.  Both are terrible choices if she plans on keeping the vehicles a long time (and esp. out of warranty).

She owns a Prius right now which I told her to keep because it will last a long time and lease the Jeep if she wants but she is quite stubborn when it comes to this topic. All I tell her is I’m trying to help her😂.

The Wrangler with a standard tranny is the better one, imo. It has the Aisin manual transmission, which is a Toyota sourced transmission. Unfortunately, the Pentastar 3.6L V6 isn't as good of a product. The quality for that is typical Fiat-Chrysler. Not great. Scotty talks about the engine in a couple videos. That transmission will probably outlast the engine.

I thought so… I just can’t stand Fiat-Chrysler products and I’m trying anything to convince her to buy something else. Thanks for the input!!!

I've learned from Scotty to avoid them like the plague. He did a video a while back on the Pentastar and talked about how they had cylinder head problems at some point. That explained why I found a 2011 Journey in the junkyard with the Pentastar torn apart and the heads were gone. I took a piston, cleaned it up and had it nickel plated at work. Made a nice decoration. Haha.

Can I ask you one thing? Why did she pick two of the crappiest vehicles? I would buy neither but if I was forced to, I would buy the Jeep as the Pentastar V6 is ok and a manual can last but the ZF 8 speed is also good. In typical Korean car fashion, the Tellurides are junk and they fall apart.

I would rather buy a 4Runner if you ask me if you want a rugged SUV. Subarus like the Crosstrek with a manual are also worth a look.

I wish I knew the answer but she won’t budge on it. Says “it’s my money and I want a jeep.” I told her it’s fine if she wants an endless money pit of junk. I have an 05 4runner with 214,000 miles and I love it. But apparently to her, there are no cars like jeeps.

Tell her to save up for a Land Cruiser or a Lexus LX. They are just as capable and they are more luxurious. They are also very desirable and they hold their value rlly well.

Judging from what you said, she's making an emotional decision and ALL emotional decisions are just plain bad.  Nice try, though.

Both terrible vehicles but as far as I know the Jeeps don't have a habit of going up in flames so that may be a data point in their favor.

The Chrysler pentastar V6 is actually not that bad of a motor. Those engines can run pretty long if taken care of.  Don't buy the Kia. That vehicle is worse than the Jeep.

Thanks for the input, I think she’ll end up buying the Jeep unfortunately for her but I agree… A better option than the Kia!

Hi.

Ask her to test drive the Wrangler. Being a truly capable, off road vehicle, their 'on road' manners are not brilliant. It will hold its money better than the Kia. The 8 speed ZF is a good transmission.
