You recently said that Jeep wranglers 99 and earlier were decent vehicles. That's good news because I'm looking to buy one but, are the parts still plentiful ?

That engine has been around for a long time. But I would go down to your local car shop and check.
Tons of them were built and Jeep guys keep those things going forever. Parts are plentiful and there are some really good Jeep forums out there as well to assist in working on them.
You'd want to find one that is still mainly stock. A lot of Jeeps have been modified to death with wildly varying quality of those "upgrades" - better to start stock and properly customize it the way you want as desired.
Be careful of the issue on some later year 4.0 engines (mainly model years 2000-2002) which Chrysler treated to a weak head casting that tends to crack between #3 and #4 cylinders. This mixes coolant into the oil resulting in engine damage. The weak heads are the original "0331" casting. The factory later fixed the problem and those are known as "TUPY" heads. (Aftermarket replacements with the fix are also available.) Here is some info on that:
