Scotty, I purchased a KIA Optima Hybrid in 2012 and it had a 10 year 100K mile warranty on Engine and drivetrane. Well that ended this year and the transmission started making noises. This is the second transmission in this car. The car has a sealed trans. which I never realized. It only has 44K miles on it so I would always let the dealers preform required maintenance on it. Well never dawned on me to check the transmission fluid, so I broke the manual out and was educated that it is a sealed unit and the dealer has to maintain it. Bottom line the dealer tells me I need a replacement transmission and it would cost around $5K. The Blue Book value of the car is probably around $6K but don't quote me on that. I had no idea it was a sealed transmission but that is my fault for not reading the owners manual, I was going through a lot of issues at that time. I guess my question is how long is a sealed transmission supposed to last. I doesn't make sense to buy a a car with a sealed transmission unless you plan on recycling before the warranty is up. Learn something new everyday.
Is a sealed transmission the new normal ? I Hate it and would have gotten rid of the car before the warranty is up..... {black}:displeased:

In the best case scenario, till end of the warranty but there are numerous examples where the tranny goes bad way before the warranty expired.
Seems to me that the 100K warranty should have started when the new transmission was installed. When was that? At what mileage was the new transmission installed?
There was also a ten year limit clause in the warranty. Maybe that should have been extended.

On a Kia? You're lucky if you make it home from the dealership.

Get rid of it ASAP!
