Hi Scotty
I have a 2018 Kia K2700 diesel pick-up. Miliage is now on 42000 km. Problem started around 35000 km mark. The truck starts and runs perfectly normal, but as soon as the engine reaches around 2750 rpm, it starts to stutter, similar to a misfire on a petrol engine, coinciding with a loss of power, excessive smoke from the exhaust if kept in this rev range and a reluctance to rev higher.
I have done the following in an attemp to find possible causes. I checked for presence of water in the fuel filter water trap - there was no water. Changed the fuel and airfilter regardless. Removed the tank and completely drained it. No deposits found in the tank or on the pick-up mesh filter inside the tank. Removed the inlet line to the diesel pump and checked the very fine little mesh filter situated there. It was 100% clean.
Any ideas what else can cause this?
Thanks
Well black smoke means it's getting way too much fuel and it's running rich would be a problem in the fuel injection system. And unfortunately that is a very complex electronically controlled fuel system and you would need an expert Kia diesel mechanic with a dealer level scan tool to do bi-directional testing of the fuel injection system they are that complex
