2014 Toyota Tacoma, 4 cyl, auto transmission. Great Truck. How do you feel about K&N air filters. Some folk say they mess with the sensors. Are they worth the price.
grumpy.
K&N filters are oiled correctly from the factory and do not cause MAF problems. What causes MAF problems is when the owner goes to re-oil the filter and applies too much, thus causing oil to be sucked up to the MAF and fouling it up.
There are a lot of dry filter options out there that never need oil and can be cleaned with canned air. I personally use those in my vehicle.
You should note though that for maximum performance, you HAVE to go with an oiled filter. They are the best flowing filter media and it has been proven too many times to count.
K&N filters are oiled. I personally don't like oiled filters because they are messy and can contaminate sensors. Use another aftermarket filter media that doesn't use oil.
Please note that those drop-in K&N filters are not for performance. They are just reusable filters that you clean.
Here is a study done on air filters. The "perfomance" filters (K&N True Flow) were the worst at their job (filtering).
