I bought a brand new Subaru Outback in 2018 and it has had lots of issues. Thank God I bought the 100k warranty which has covered over $25k in repairs. It has 108k miles now. I always take excellent care of my cars bc my dad was a mechanic and I cannot easily be duped or deterred. I’m a persistent PITA when I want to be. But I was gaslighted, denied, and manipulated for years by Subaru dealerships and I’m emotionally exhausted dealing with their brand and I want to sell my car. I’m getting it back very soon for the latest round of repairs. What is the best way to sell my 2018 Outback LTD with every single bell and whistle available? I refused to sell my car when I knew things were wrong with it bc it would have haunted me. Irish Catholic Guilt. I fought hard with Subaru corporate and the dealership to get everything repaired, so I have a clear conscience. Also, I need to buy a used hatchback for no more than $18k out the door, I need suggestions!
What you could do to start would be to get offers from the major used car flippers like Carvana and CarMax. You can get a rough idea of what your car is worth at Kelley Blue Book, though their values tend to be a bit inflated.
If best means the most money, you'll get the most money selling it yourself to another individual (private sell). This also requires the most effort on your part. Local papers, publications, Craigslist and Facebook Market are common examples where one finds private listings.
If you mainly want to get rid of a car so you can move on.. selling to a dealer will always get you the least amount of money. Carmax and Carvana are 2 of the least offensive options because they do generally pay more for a car than other dealerships. There's minimal interaction required and it's a great way to get rid of a PITA car. Note that there are no 'bad cars' to a dealer, it's only about making money to them.
