Hi Scotty,
I have 2001 Mitsubishi Lancer 1.8L Auto with 234k kms.Car was showing some poor acceleration issues...(Like not been reach 60-70 kmph quick enough, sluggish in changing from one speed level to another (not sure if this is a transmission issue)...
I changed spark plugs, cleaned the throttle valve & MAF sensor, replace gasket cover.,fuel filter .Only slight improvement...
Specially from start to 20 kmph , takes very long, then kind of feel jumps to second gear, from 40kmph again feel jumps to third...not smooth in acceleration...also takes lot of time..what else would I check? Any chance to fix this and make it accelerate smoothly?
Well start with the basics change the fuel filter a clogged fuel filter will do just that. If not that then pressure test the fuel pump a weak pump will do that. And if not that have the catalytic converter pressure tested because if it's clogged up it builds up too much back pressure and you lose acceleration
I am not sure how to check catalytic convertor pressure? Any tips pls
Have a pro check the transmission.

You may remove the oxygen sensor (the one before cat) and install a pressure gauge and start the car and measure the back pressure when the car is running.
