Hey Scotty, I know that you don’t like new Nissans, but I know that you spoke highly of the older ones. I’m looking at buying my first car, so I’m wondering When were the last good quality years of of Nissan so I know what years to look at? Thanks.
They were best when they were known as Datsun, if you've ever seen 80s movies referencing car brands (Planes, Trains and Automobiles, in the car rental scene) and didn't know of Datsun, they're Nissan nowadays.
Renault bought out Nissan in the early 2000s. Stuff around and before that time was better made than today. Be mindful, these are 20+ year old vehicles these days, so they will likely have issues just due to their age. Scotty reviewed a guy's mid 2000s Altima yesterday.
In the 80’s, 90’s and early 00’s, I considered Toyota, Honda, and Nissan to be the three of Japan, but with quality and reliability. With Nissan, now-a-days, I think it is a case by case basis, and err on the side of caution. If the platform, engine, and transmission are more Renault than Nissan, pass. If it’s more Nissan than Renault maybe. If its a Jatco CVT, be extremely careful, and tread carefully.
