Leaking engine-top cartridge filter

Hi Scotty,

I have a 2006 Kia Sedona 3.6 l with 222,000 miles on it. It has an engine-top cartridge oil filter that keeps blowing out the gasket, causing the oil to leak out (not a big leak) and burn on the engine. Since the cap is plastic, I don't want to tighten it too much. I have had others with similar vehicles tell me it is just a problem with the design. Could there be an engine back-pressure causing it or is it just a bad filter housing design?

Thank you and Merry Christmas,

Mark

The 18-year-old plastic housing could be warped. I'd replace it. (Metal housings may be available from the aftermarket.)
