2007 Lexus GS350 transmission slipping in cold weather after fluid change

  1. Hey Scotty I have an 07 lexus gs350 awd that I bought with 73500 miles got it checked out by a mechanic and they said the transmission fluid needs to be changed.. so I had them did the fluid change but after that I realized that when I start the car and it's cold outside the transmission seems to take a while to get out of first gear which causes the engine to rev a little higher than normal. But when the car warms up for like 10 minutes it doesn't have that problem.. there are no engine lights or any lights on the dash indicating somethings wrong...what should I do? The odometer just hit 78k.

My 2007 ES350 did that occasionally on cold mornings not to long after I bought it. I had the local Toyota dealer service the transmission, which I think is a pan drop, filter change, then refill. It still did it a couple times after that. Some drips appeared on the garage floor, the output shaft seals were replaced. I'm starting to see some more oil spots on the floor again. I think the slipping is caused by low transmission oil level. I bought WS (world standard) oil and added half a quart to the transmission. Hasn't done it for a week. I made an appointment with a shop to try and locate where the leaks are coming from and to stop them if possible.

When you had the trans fluid changed that fluid basically kept the trans from slipping in adverse weather.  But now its clean..its slippery than it once was so under cold climate things don't operate so well with thin ATF oil.  Nothing you can do about unless you park your car in a heated garage. I would not worry about it as it will be a situation you will have to endure. Next year its possible this situation will not repeat itself..but it could.  For the time being..you should start your car and warm it up to take the extra time.

Take it to a transmission shop...it may just need the transmission computer re-flashed.
