What kind of gas leak?

You need to be more specific. "A gas leak?" Do you mean gasoline mixing with oil? Or do you mean a leak in the fuel tank or fuel lines? And so forth? 

It might be as simple as an old gas cap, you know. Or not. 

Get ahold of your emotions, think about it as if it was someone else's vehicle, and come up with relevant details, such as year, when symptoms began and how you came to the conclusion that you have. 

The overall lesson is to have a mechanic perform a pre-purchase inspection PRIOR to buying the vehicle.

Those are solid cars. Stuff does break eventually. I wouldn't write the car off over a simple gas leak. When you need to replace the tank you can always get a southern one.

Yeah do not drive the vehicle until you fix the gas leak. Have it attended to ASAP.

I purchase the vehicle from a shady dude in ct then drove it an hour and half to ny but kept smelling gas the whole way ...I was told by a mechanic it is a gas leak, the fuel tank had to be replace and the fuel line had to be replaced as well very expensive for me..I thought I was getting decent deal...it s being repaired as the moment still at the moment
