Lexus RX350 2007. Startup rattle warm engine

Hey Scotty , I have purchased a used 2007 Lexus RX 350 with around 140 000 kms, currently at 170 000 kms. Great car loving it , but one issue bothers me. After parking a car , shutting off the engine , letting it sit for 15-30 minutes and starting it again I hear a short rattle which lasts about 1-2 seconds. Sounds identical to a cold start cam gear rattle , only it doesn’t happen when the engine is cold , rather when it’s warm. What could it be ? Will changing to a 5w-40 engine oil fix the problem ? Currently using 5w-30, the car does not consume any oil and transmission works perfectly.

Thank you for your advice

you could try a little heavier oil but generally that's one timing chains or variable valve timing which one worn will just keep making that noise but as long as it doesn't do it when you're running it's okay when it rattles all the time it has to be fixed which cost a ton

Thanks Scotty. Yeah it doesn’t rattle when the car is running , the engine idles smooth , no error codes. Funny thing is when I change the oil and put a fresh one in , the start up rattle goes away and comes back after 4000 - 5000 kms. But yeah I guess I gotta prepare to replace the chains and variable valve timing gears. Wanna keep this car for few years 😬 Hope the chain or gears won’t fall off till I’m ready to replace them 😬.

Hi Scotty , I’m sorry to bother you again . I have recorded a video of my rattle during warm engine start. Here is the link. A friend of mine horrified me telling it sounds like engine bearings making noise for 1-2 seconds. I hope he is wrong 🙁 https://youtube.com/shorts/mc88lEA8oM4?feature=share

My vote is the timing chain, guides and tensioner.  $$ ahead!

Sadly yes , here in Europe cost of replacing the chain and gears around 2000-3000 euros , eek 😬
