I recently retired and want to buy a fun car. I have decided on a hard top convertible. Wife wants a German built one however I want reliability and luxury. I don't care for the fish mouth frontends on the modern ones. I am looking at either a SC 430 , IS350C, or maybe the IS 250C.
Do you have any suggestions of what one is in your opinion best. What should I look for and would one of these later be a higher value car. I plan to keep it 20 years and would drive 5000 miles or less a year. What are your thoughts. Thanks
I would go IS350C. The SC430 cars are nice, but the Lexus V8's are a maintenance nightmare.
IS350 by far if you want long term hassle free reliability. The V8 in the SC would eat your wallet.
Go with the IS350C and don’t look back.
If those are your options I would go IS350. If I had a wife who wanted me to buy a German car, and I wanted a reliable convertible, I would go with the BMW M240i. They are the simpler, least tech heavy BMW in their line-up. In 2020 it was considered reliable by Consumer Reports. This in combination with the straight six B58 and ZF8 speed transmission that scotty raves about is fairly reliable. I am sure people on this forum will tell you it is a money pit BMW, but they are Toyota/Lexus fanboys, with good reason. But a BMW truly is the Ultimate Driving Machine especially the smaller 2 series. Just something to look into! Welcome to Scotty forum and I hope you have had a great retirement thus far!
