I have a 2010 ford falcon xr6 sedan with 103,000 kilometres on the odometer,im going to change the diff oil in it myself tomorrow morning, the cars workshop manual says to use 80W-140 gear oil,I have 85w-140 oil and was wondering if I can use this slightly thicker viscosity oil in it? The oil i have is nulon squeeze pack for hard to reach diff fill holes, its a semi synthetic oil that says its compatible with my car but wanted to get your opinion on this. Thanks scotty from Australia, appreciate all your help over the years, you have saved us thousands of dollars in labour costs. Kind regards, Daryl.

You can use 85W-140 IF:

Its synthetic

AND

You live in a warmer climate. Best practice is to use the correct fluid but if you have some synthetic Amsoil (or similar quality product) and would like to use it AND the above conditions have be met, you can.
