Since buying my car, I've been having issues with the transmission. Going slow from like 11- 22 my car shakes while getting up to speed but eventually shifts. If I go a bit faster it shifts like regular with no issues. Does this mean my transmission is going out or is there something else?
Hello, I’m not an expert in any way, but here are a couple things to look at. How does the transmission fluid look? Dirty brown or pinkish red? Also has the filter been changed? There are also a couple shift solenoids that build up particles inside and need cleaned. Any and all can cause the issues described so I would certainly check these out before declaring the transmission bad. Don’t let a mechanic sell you a transmission until they have looked at the mentioned items. Hope this helps.
@pennyfarthing
The fluid is all good and the level is correct. Looks clean with no particles in it. Guess it could be the shift solenoids? It really shifts fine after that speed. Thanks
One of the most common problems pertaining to this is do to the neglect of upkeep in retinue maintenance. This problem could possibly be caused by needing a simple adjustment of the clutch pack ban. It's also quite possible it could be do to worn ujoints in the drive axel system. Your amount of mileage is at the amount of miles that could be the issue with what your experiencing.
@moparforever
Not sure about upkeep on it, unfortunately. Ill ask the mechanic about that stuff thanks!
Well, … sounds like a converter is acting up! Anyway, … has been your transmission serviced. Is fluid updated from ATF Z-1 to DW-1, … those are Honda genuine fluids. Don’t deviate from these! Also, check for updates of software. There should be at least two. Recall both!
Now, good news: … many Honda’s with this problems have been trouble free for many, many years. I hope yours is one of them!

Torque converter huh? Not sure if it's been serviced but when I first got the car mechanic said level and fluid was clean and good. Any by trouble-free you mean beforehand or after lol? I'll ask about the software stuff. Thanks!
If you don’t know if transmission was serviced, … service it! I mean, change the fluid. Use Honda genuine DW-1. It’s not expensive. It’s easily done in ones driveway - view Scotty’ vid. About 3-1/2 quarts, … or litres! Compare a colour of your old fluid and new fluid. If old fluid is really discoloured vis-a-vis new fluid,… change it one more time after driving, … say for a day or two [remember, transmission contains more fluid than you can drain each time - about twice as much].
After that, … just drive it!
Best,
F.S.
PS: … did your mechanic mentioned any automatic transmission codes? If he/she did, … post them here and we will have a closer look.
@figmund-sreud
Nope, there are no transmission codes. The mechanic said the fluid seems to be fresh and clean and he didn't recommend a fluid change.
Well, … good news! Just keep driving, than!
Like I mentioned before, many Hondas with this bit of shudder continue to drive for many, many years. Just keep checking fluid level, … and always keep a keen eye for any colour change sign.
Best,
