Linkage or Transmission

2002 Acura MDX touring, I bought it with 254,000 miles and it runs like a dream. Except that it won't shift automatically. At first the shifter was stuck in park and had to use the shift release button for a bit. Now there's no check engine light for the first 2 weeks.  When it did, it was an EVAP LEAK CODE. I replaced the gas cap and boom. engine light gone. Realized that break switch pad was missing, fixed that issue and now shifter is unlocked. still hasn't thrown any fault codes engine or otherwise doesn't run bad just won't shift automatically sometimes it'll crank no start because it doesn't recognize it's in park. If I leave it alone for 15 or 20 minutes and come back it'll crank right up. Linkage? Maybe? Or Transmission rebuild?

Knowing I was just going to need a rebuild when they do that it's often internal failure like the oil pump inside the transmission starting to go out or other internal damage a small fortune to fix

Update: I checked the fuse for the FI Main, because the cruise control isnt working either. I pulled it, it was still good and I put it back. Instantly the D5 lit up (something it hadn't been doing. And it shifted automatically until I shut the car off then back to the drawing board... New diagnosis FI Main relay?
