My car's front struts are misting.

Hello,

I brought my car (Toyota Innova (Southeast Asian Market), 50,000km (31,000 mi)) in for a service a couple of months ago, and the mechanic told me that the front struts are misting.

I just have a couple of questions:

1.) Is misting pre-cursor to strut failure?

2.) How long should I expect struts to last? (conservative driving, although bad Philippine road conditions)

My tires wear evenly, there are no knocking noise coming from the suspension, and the ride isn't bouncing abnormally.

Thank you for taking time to read this, I'm just seeking what the experts have to say.

When you say ‘misting’, do you mean leaking?

Well I got the term misting from this https://www.carid.com/articles/when-is-it-time-to-replace-my-shock-absorbers.html article, they have a picture of a slightly misting shock absorber which accurately resemble the appearance of my front struts.

The Innova is indestructible. I highly doubt your struts are leaking at 50,000 kms, if you say the ride is unchanged.

I have driven an Innova with 150,000 kms still on the stock suspension & it drove just fine. Unless you aim for all the potholes and don’t slow down, on your way to get Lechon, the stock set up should still be in great shape.

Has the mechanic shown you proof of them leaking? If not, go stick your head in the wheel well & check if you see leaking struts like in this video -

From the article you quoted -

1. Which image does your struts match?

2. Are you sure it’s not just grime & water after driving through wet roads?

I was just about the post the same photo and comments. You beat me to it....lol
