Looking at a 2002 Lexus ES300 with 198000 Miles

Hey Scotty,

One of my friends was looking at a Lexus ES300 with 198000 miles and was wondering if it is a good deal. The car is one owner, and the timing belt has been replaced as well. If checked by a mechanic, can this car last 300,000-400,000 miles with minimal maintenance?

You did not mention the price but it is too old with too many miles. Things finally break and being a Lexus, parts are not cheap.

The Price is $2500 CAD

Pass.

Got it.

You didn't answer the question in the opening paragraph.  Private party or dealer?  With that many miles, unless you get it cheap enough to get a warranted rebuilt engine installed, I would pass.  It's not exactly a classic, investment type vehicle.

Car is being sold from a private seller. He serviced it at the dealer till 2011 and afterwards moved to a private mechanic shop
