Is a fuel filter change on a 2006 Corolla with 83,000 miles on it a DIY job? Do I need any special tools? And, what exactly gets replaced? I am having a hard time finding a filter online, so should I go to a dealer to buy the filter?

The procedure and tools you need depends entirely on what type of filter you have, so find that out first. Is it a separate, remote filter, or is the filter part of the pump assembly inside the gas tank.

The filter itself only costs about $10 at AutoZone, but it's in the tank which has to be drained and dropped. This is a high labor job best left to a professional, independent mechanic, not a dealership.
