Looking for a scantool

Hey, great new page. Long time youtube lurker first time asker.

Ive got a 2010 Ram 1500 4.7 4wd ive owned since 20k now with 270k on it. Original motor and transmission.

I was at the dealer to do the shift interlock recall and also needed a cage nut for the y pipe. On his tablet it was throwing a trans code but he was trying to bull'hit me about needing a bunch of manifold work. I just needed 30$ of nuts and bolts to fix the problem myself so our conversation and friendship was rather short and never asked him what the code was.

Im looking for an expensive scanner that will read trans module codes. Ive got a cheap scanner that reads engine codes and shows live data but doesnt graph. If anyone could recommend something affordable that at least reads trans codes thats what im looking for but preferably i would like something that graphs.

Thanks

Get the Bluedriver scan tool.

It is only $99 and is the best bang for the buck.

There are many many scanners that can do that some may do more than other but if you want my recommendation get an autel 808 from ebay they go from 300-500 and they do a LOT some can even reprogram keys so for the price and the reason you want it its a great scanner

@ignatiosgr
Thats good information. I actually sat there a couple nights ago and went back and forth on buying a Launch CRP129 but couldnt bring myself to pull the trigger. I have run into the 808 quite a few times but I cant tell if it need to buy the subscription to use it after the first year or if thats just to update it. Is this something you have experience with?

Thanks for your input.

No need the subscriptions are for more advanced stuff that you wont have to use and the updates should be free for a year and yes ive been a mechanic for about 15 years and i own a lot of scanners like the snap on the matco max autel 906 ucandas and some small ones and by the way ucandas is also cheaper and it can do quite a lot as well here is the link to the one that i got a couple years back https://www.ebay.com/itm/UCANDAS-VDM-WiFi-OBD2-Diagnostic-Scanner-Car-All-System-Automotive-Tablet-Tool-/173616224843 that needs no subscriptions what so ever its hook up and go and updates are free u can access transmission engine abs air bags immo and you can allso do maintenance resets

@ignatiosgr
That tool looked great to me until i noticed they only have a Chinese customer service number. I think ill call Autel tomorrow and see what exactly i get with the 808.

Thanks for a post with genuine content unlike the 2 mods below.

Don't know if I should start a new thread or resurrect this one?. I was going to buy an Innova 5610 tool. They're £500 here in the UK. About $400 if shipped from America.

Here's the problem: "Use it on any foreign or domestic 1996 or newer OBD2 car, light truck, SUV, or hybrid vehicle". It says in the product description.

Then if you read the "small print" at the bottom of the sales page on Amazon it says "This product supports any foreign or domestic 1996 or newer OBD2 vehicle, light truck, SUV, or hybrid vehicle sold in the US or Canada".

I saw this review left by a guy in Australia who said it's worthless because it doesn't support his car. He said why sell it internationally if it doesn't work on cars outside America. I think for a $400-£500 investment, I'm going to take his word for it.

Shame, because I want to buy things made in the west and not China. But this seems like misleading marketing. Also I've got a Lexus 2006 IS220D (diesel) and people are saying these Innovas don't work on diesels, but I did see the marketing page say it will clear DPF codes. Moot point I suppose.

Are there any other Scantool makes made in the west by any chance?. Thanks.

Did you check the FAQ?

Ask in the Lexus diesel forums. You’ll get better recommendations there, or @dan may be able to point you in the right direction for diesel scanners.

We have a thread on scanners.
Pick what you like and contact the scanner makers on their capabilities via email.

Thanks gents. I ended up buying a (Chinese) NT530 from Foxwell. https://www.foxwelldiag.com/products/foxwell-nt530
I'll find that scantool thread and update on how good the tool is. It's designed for Toyota/Lexus.

I was looking at my 25 year old Makita saw the other day that's seen heavy use and it was made in the PRC so I'm hoping this will be as good.
