Hi Scott when am in the first and sometimes second gears my car jerks and does not give out the right amount of power unless I floor it what could be the problem?

Oh it’s a 1996 vauxhall Astra 1.6lt manual transmission sedan
Generally that's not a transmission problem but an engine management problem is flooring makes it work so it's not running right unless it has full power. Things as dumb as a clogged air filter or worn out spark plugs can do it but so can a clogged fuel filter weak fuel pump or weak fuel injectors. Start simple and work your way up if needed
