Low mileage driver

Hi Scotty,
I have a 2018 Tacoma, automatic V6 4x4 with 24000 km (15,000 miles)... I only drive about 8000 Km (5000 mi) per year. Are there any particular maintenance tips that should be followed for those of us who put very low annual mileage on our vehicles? FYI.. I live up north, Newfoundland, Canada (lots of snow).

Thanks

Terry

That's a smart question. Most important I'd say is to change your oil as it says in your owner's manual. Usually it will say something like "12000 km or 12 months, whichever happens first", don't forget that time interval!

Also since you live in Canada we have shops that will apply antirust (at least in Québec we do), some garages might offer it too but usually shops that specialize in this might also have a rust free warranty for newer vehicles like yours, definitively a good thing to consider. One time per year is great but you can go one time every two years if you're cheap.

Finally if you drive short city distances where the engine doesn't have time to warm up, it's good every once in a while to go on the highway at constant speed for maybe half an hour. Some people refer to this as "Italian tuneup".

This is what I can think of but there are other things too.

Thanks. Yes, it's been rust-proofed annually since I purchased it. 👍
