2004 F-150 2004 5.4L Triton 3V
I've replaced the Throttle Body, MAF sensor, MAF connectors, Throttle connectors, and ECM which I took it to the best mechanic in town. They reprogrammed my ECM. It threw me faulty codes on the O2 sensors, replaced them as well...yet still having issues..am I missing something here? I've tested the wires with my mulitmeter and each wire is shooting 12v. P0102, P2106, P2195/P2197 are the codes I'm struggling to fix and it's driving on Failsafe Mode. Any help would be greatly appreciated
I am a little confooosed. Why are you having all these connectors replaced? And just what exactly did this mechanic reprogram in your ECM? Far as your O2 sensors go they really should be replaced with original equipment. I say that because there is some cheap crap coming outta China. Example.... Bosch O2 sensors are crap.
Not to sound like an a$$ but it sounds like someone has been taking you on a ride to fatten their wallet and your problem isn’t anywhere near fixed. And sad part is now we gotta figure out what else they have broken in the process.
Because one of the connector were cracked so i figured it had a loose connection since one of the code was saying MAF sensor low circuit input. Replace it and still got the same code. So replaced the other two just incase but aint nothing changed. The mechanic hook up his $10k computer, not sure what are you asking of, but maybe he didnt reprogrammed the ECM properly I'm not sure. I brought two Bosch O2 sensors (only brands available in town) but they were not cheap ($70 each). Theyre german engineers, not Chinese. Every parts I've bought was either from Oreillys, Advance Auto, or Autozone. I never brought no cheap aftermarket chinese craps.
From Experience Bosch sensors are crap. And just because it says bosch doesn’t mean they made it. Trust me.
So what you're telling me is that I should get motorcraft o2 sensors and it'll fix it all?
No, NGK or Denso I haven’t seen anything where they are outsourcing to China. Had good luck with them. Not saying it will fix it all, but like I said I know from experience that Bosch is junk. Customers and my own personal vehicle. Some dead off the shelf. 4 that died within a few months of install.
Also, I forgot to mention that once I've replaced the O2 sensors, the catalytic converter is making noises.
I beat around it with a hammer and nothing. Seems pretty solid to me.
If it’s making noises then it’s either partially clogged or coming apart inside. Beating it with a hammer isn’t gonna tell you anything.
Check the heat shields around the cat.
Does Denso makes sensors for Ford?
Not sure about his truck. But I did get densos for my daughter in laws Focus a few months back. Was a welcome find.
Get your car to another shop and reprogram the ECU. If you changed all the sensors with OEM parts, the codes are related to the ECM.
I'm booked to see a ford dealership on monday for which I've scheduled about 3 weeks ago..
The Throttle Actuator Control System code (P2106) is being thrown in response to the other 3 codes.
The computer is "thinking"..."I can't maintain the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio of 14.7:1, so I'm going to put this truck into "Failsafe Mode" until this problem is corrected to prevent engine damage."
The fact that you replaced the Throttle Body, MAF sensor, MAF connectors rules out a few things as long as a new IAC valve came with the throttle body.
It seems you're getting "unmetered air" into the combustion chambers.
So much that the computer has reached its (positive) LTFT limits on both cylinders to maintain the 14.7:1 air/fuel ratio and can't get the O2 sensors to respond to its correction efforts. (P2195/P2197).
It's thinking that the MAF sensor is lying to it. (P0102)
I'd be thinking an intake manifold gasket leak. But both cylinder banks leaking at once? Maybe, but not likely. (don't rule it out. "unlikely" happens sometimes)
So what would cause lean conditions on both cylinder banks?
On the "air side" of the equation, the aforementioned manifold gaskets, air leaking in (between the MAF sensor and the throttle body), stuck open PCV valve or deteriorated PCV valve hose (leaking), or stuck open EGR valve comes to mind.
On the "fuel side" of the equation, low fuel pressure.
This is an interesting problem. PLEASE come back and tell us what the dealer does to correct it. That information will be useful to other F150 owners as well as a learning opportunity for the rest of us
I'd hate to admit it, but I forgot to put the transmission crossmember back on after taking apart my catalytic converter to check for leaks when I had just did the timing chain replacement job. Well, long story short, the driver side bank was leaking directly onto the catalytic converter which is why I took it apart in the first place to see if it was clogged while unknowly where the leak was coming from. I made a mistake pinching the gasket in the valve cover, so I had to buy another one to solved that problem, but I was in a rush to go on to my next job in Kentucky and as my transmission was shifting around ups and downs and around the mountains and probablybeen going on for a few weeks before the codes. Then suddenly, my truck went on Failsafe mode and literally one week later after all those replacements. Finally, decided to take my truck to the local mechanic shop trying to pinpoint the problem there. He was doing some visual inspecting to see if I installed the O2 sensors correctly and just seconds before he decided to crawl out from underneath. Luckily, he was able to spot something suspicious about my transmission. It was leaning up against the firewall where the wiring harness is mounted onto the frame vertically and yet, there was no transmission crossmember in place horizontally, only because I didn't realized how important it was to reinstall it. My mistakes, my fault, but I'm just glad that I can get back on the road again. There you have it, that is the end of my "short story." Have a great day.
NEVER take your car to a dealership unless you enjoy getting ripped off.
I'm gonna try to get a quote on it, all Im really trying to do is to get them to diagnose the issues and narrow down to whats wrong with it. I dont really have any other choice.
